Parrots on Roses

Parrots often destroy rose shoots in particular the water shoots as they re-shoot after pruning. They like the sweet juice that they have inside the shoots. In these situations these hawks will work provided the Parrots can see the Hawk profile above them from where they are landing. The higher you can install your Hawk the larger the area is that you will protect. If you watch your Parrots as they come to attack you will see that they always come from one or two directions. Usually they fly from a creek or bushland to a tree near your roses. From here they swoop down and start feeding.

By installing the Hawk at the edge of your garden bed with the head of the Hawk facing towards the nearby trees, or bush where they are coming from you will protect your complete garden bed, the higher the Hawk the bigger the area that will be protected. Usually Parrots attack the edge of your garden first, this is because they know that if a threat to them becomes apparent they can fly back to the bush that they came from. By protecting the edge of the roses you can protect the entire garden bed. There are three methods. See installation page for details. In brief with the pipe method you can spike the Hawk on the end of a 6 metre length of 25mm dia pipe (Gal or PVC) and stand the hawk and pipe up on the edge of your garden.

Alternatively you can use strong fishing line or thin wire to suspend the hawk between tall trees, poles etc. You will obtain excellent results using this method. Remember that for the Hawk to be effective birds must be able to see it above them from where they are landing in the garden. The Hawk is unique because it is a full size imitation hawk made of durable weatherproof plastic. As birds instinctively fear the Hawk they are also scared to come under the sight of the profile of this replica of a hovering Hawk. The Hawk is the mortal enemy of parrots so if you can install it correctly it will work brilliantly for you. From previous customer experience in similar situations we can say that the Hawk Bird Scarer will work for you. If it doesn’t, we offer you a money back guarantee.
