In your situation these hawks will work provided the birds can see the Hawk profile above them from where they are landing or from where they are flying into the property.
All you need to do is, install the Hawks high above the fruit trees or Garden Beds, where the birds are doing the damage or at the edge of your crop. Usually, Blackbirds enter a property from the same direction every day. They are creatures of habit. For example, they will attack the same bunch of grapes grape by grape until that bunch is gone and then they will move onto the next, whereas Silvereyes just take a peck out of each piece of fruit.
If the problem is birds scratching out mulch, then you need to try and scare the birds before they have a chance to hide under a shrub or tree. This is because if the blackbirds can’t see the hawk, then they figure the Hawk can’t see them and so they continue to cause damage. Often by installing the Hawk at the edge of your crop or garden or even where the Blackbirds are flying into your property you will stop them. By protecting the edge of the garden or crop you can protect the entire area. There are two methods.
The best method for you is to use strong fishing line or thin wire to suspend the hawk between tall trees, poles or the roofs of buildings etc. You will obtain excellent results using this method.
Alternatively, you can install your hawks on the ends of long lengths of 40mm plumber’s plastic water pipe. It is available in 20mm or 25mm diameter in 6 meter lengths. One length is an ideal height to install your hawk on by hammering in a wooden plug into one end and screwing the hawk into the plug. Install the pipe with the hawk on top by lashing it to a fence post, steel picket at the edge of your crop or up through the crown of your fruit tree. The head of the hawk should face out in the direction that the birds fly in from.
The Hawk is unique because it is a full-size imitation hawk made of durable weatherproof plastic. As birds instinctively fear the Hawk they are also scared to come within sight of the profile of this replica of a hovering Hawk. The hawk will scare 28’s, cockatoos, galahs and other members of the parrot, Rosella and cockatoo families, silver eyes, European Blackbirds and most other native birds.
